What are good — and less expensive — alternatives to an MBA?

I work within the technology function of a financial services firm and I am beginning to be considered for roles at the next level. I want to develop new skills and stand out, but I am not sure I can afford an MBA, or justify the cost and time out of work. Are there any alternatives (academic or otherwise) that will help me progress? Male 30s
