MARKET: Sensex down 800pts, sheds 1,600pts from high; Nifty near 15,450


slipped into red after a promising start in sync with weakness in Asian peers and US futures, a day after the

hiked interest rates by 75 bps.

The BSE Sensex was down 800 points around 51,700-level, after having touched a high of 53,142 in early deals. The NSE Nifty skid near the 15,400-level, and was down nearly 300 points..
The broader markets were also seen holding heavy losses. The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were down around 2 per cent each.

Among stocks, GE Power India gained over 2 per cent after the company’s arm GE Energy Financial Services acquired a 49 per cent stake in Continuum Green Energy’s 148.5 megawatt Morjar onshore wind project in Gujarat for an undisclosed sum. 

Mahindra Lifespaces also rose 2 per cent after the company’s wholly owned subsidiary, Mahindra Bloomdale Developers launched its second residential project ‘Mahindra Nestalgia’ in Pune.
