Benchmark indices staged a smart recovery in the last hour of Friday’s trade, with banks leading the charge, ahead of the Union Budget 2020 tomorrow.
The S&P BSE Sensex was trading 15 points, or 0.04 per cent, lower at 40,890 levels. IndusInd Bank, State Bank of India, and Bajaj-Auto were all up 2 per cent each. On the other hand, ONGC and Powergrid slumped 4 per cent each.
The broader Nifty50 index was trading around the psychological 12,050-mark.
The Nifty sectoral indices were trading mixed. Nifty Bank, Nifty PSU Bank, and Nifty Private Bank indexes were all up over 1 per cent while Nifty Metal index, down 1 per cent, bled the most.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index dipped 29 points, or 0.18 per cent, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index was up 15 points.
