GOP coronavirus relief bill fails to pass in Senate

[ad_1]

A GOP relief bill failed in the Senate yesterday and in fact was considered dead upon arrival by Democrats, who said that what the Republicans proposed was inadequate.

On Twitter, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called the bill “emaciated.”

The Senate vote of 52-45 did not meet the 60 votes needed to advance the coronavirus relief package that included around $500 billion for small businesses, enhanced unemployment insurance, child care, the post office and schools, according to The Washington Post. It would have also created a  liability shield for businesses from certain lawsuits related to the coronavirus.

While the bill also included funds for coronavirus testing, no money was earmarked for hospital relief, as was passed earlier in CARES Act funding.

Another legislative attempt at a COVID-19 relief bill is reportedly not going to happen before the November 3 presidential election.
