Some media reports suggest that India’s lockdown might be extended beyond May 31. However, the government has not yet confirmed the development. At least 49 million people across the world are expected to plunge into “extreme poverty” as a direct result of the pandemic’s economic destruction and India leads that projection, according to the World Bank. Aorund 12 million Indians will be pushed to extreme poverty this year.
