India had 5,916 coronavirus cases and 178 deaths from the disease till Thursday noon, as the country’s central bank “drastically altered” its outlook for the economy.
The disease “hangs over the future, like a spectre,” said the Reserve Bank of India in its monetary policy report, which spoke about the consequences of a three-week lockdown in the country.
Odisha became the first state to extend the lockdown in the state till April 30, adding to the buzz that India won’t be opened up fully as scheduled on April 14.
Globally, the death toll surpassed 88,965 and the number of infections crossed 1,524,833, according to the Worldometer website.
